Hello, I am a new member and recently had an opportunity to test drive my first ever Lotus, an Evora GT. I enjoyed the drive. The car felt analog and steering felt better than anything I've experienced. I think it's my kind of car and I am thinking about buying one.

I understand the quirks of a low volume hand made boutique manufacturer, as I own a Morgan 3 Wheeler. Evora would not be a toy or weekend car. I will put some miles on it for commuting and everything else. So, I am a bit curious/concerned about reliability. Is that too much to expect? I don't mind if there is a rattle or some piece of trim is fading etc. but I must have a car that's not going to leave me stranded or will have check engine lights coming on all the time.

I've read some comments here that indicate it's utterly unreliable and some other comments that state it's very reliable. Realistically what should I expect? I would like to keep/enjoy it for many years.

Thanks in advance for your candid feedback.
Cheers!
It is not too much to expect. I am the outlier here and I believe that I might have contributed to the issue I am currently working through on my 2011 Evora NA. It was hinting at a problem for a few months and if I tried to diagnose it myself as there is no local dealer here in Washington, DC area, good, bad or otherwise. The nearest dealership is up in New Jersey, 3 - 4 hours away. If they were local, I would have let them solve it for me before it stranded me. I am sure that it is something simple, but I have yet to figure it out. Dave Simkin from Lotus North America has been a huge help in this as well as previous issues, which have been of the maintenance variety. I plan to take my Evora on cross-country trips once this most recent issue has been solved.

I was going to order an Empire Green car but found a car in that color in dealer inventory. With the 2020 incentives, could not justify the cost of custom ordering. So, I have officially joined the club. Transportation will take some time but I am excited. I sincerely hope that reliability issues will not make me regret this decision.

I think that far more likely depends upon you than the car. I’ve been a member of the board for 8 years. I can remember maybe a handful of people who have suggested over that time that they’ve regretted buying an Evora. Needless to say there have been more than a handful of problems with peoples’ cars. So it’s less about the reliability of the cars and more about your willingness to put up with the occasional (but rarely debilitating) quirk. Most people find any trade-offs to be more than acceptable.

Congratulations! You're going to love your new Evora. Generally speaking the later the build date the better the build quality. Most GT owners here are reporting few if any initial quality issues and that's been true for most of us 400 owners as well with few exceptions. My car has been a lot less trouble than my last BMW if that's any consolation. It probably shouldn't be as my last BMW was terrible. However my Evora has been fine. A new car inevitably requires some shakedown but I think it's become Lotus dogma lately that Evoras are being delivered with no more quality issues than other fine cars. You may find a trim bit or some doohickey to deal with but you won't be chasing down rattles or odd electrical gremlins. They are delivering tight cars.

I'm fighting a nasty problem (sunroof leak they just can't stem) on my wife's Alltrack. This is a serious leak and it's winter now. VW has proven incapable of repairing it (in three tries to date) so I am thinking about giving it back to them, or at least trying. That won't be your Evora GT experience.

I’m more afraid of other cars at this point; R8 magride leaks or AC pump replacement, M3/4 crank hub spin, really any of the modern BMW engine terminal illnesses, GTR transmission problems, any Ferrari maintenance period, out of warranty Mclaren electrical problems, etc.

Lew, I sincerely hope that Evora turns out to be the keeper I have been looking for.
As you said they are getting better and no worse than other modern cars.
Knock on wood .. Fingers crossed!

Congrats on your new Evora. I too am a new Lotus owner, purchasing my 2020 GT about 4 months ago now. I just took it on a 500+ mile road trip for Christmas and absolutely no issues. Currently stands at 2600 miles. Not a very good data point in terms of miles at this point but so far, no problems at all.

Well, I‘ve taken the leap. Time will tell how I fare. I hope it’s going to be great.
Congratulations! As to your early comment that you wouldn't be taking cross country trips, I started out that way but now every year drive across the country to a LOG (Lotus Owners Gathering) event. My first year I trailered my car, no more.. I drive and enjoy.

I enjoy long trips in my Evora too. All use in between our Evora road trips is just biding time. Pleasantly passing time in the drive no doubt, but using the car as the focal point of a road trip holiday is just a delight.

The Evora works a lot better than it has any right to as a tourer. The only limitation is what you can fit in the car. Even so, there's sufficient room for a sensibly selected week's worth of luggage for two.........if everybody is sensible.
