Horrible news - that feeling has to be the worst.

I loaned out my 99 Vette to a co-worker to go to a church from a wedding reception to pick up a tripod they left and he took the long route - the route that included a winding road where he took out a light pole with the side of my car. In Louisiana - the insurance follows the car and thus I would have had to pay for it except he came up with the $6k to cover the damages...

Now the only drives that people get are with me in the passenger's seat.

Who was the box for? Might they be liable for the damages?

Won't his insurance cover it since he was driving?

If you filed a claim on your own policy, won't your insurance go up ?
A friend did the same thing to my S2000. Turns out he lied about having his own policy... he was piggybacking on his wife's policy on his (her) car. He wrecked my S2000 and paid for the deductible, but my policy went up $600+ per year for over 2 years, which he didn't pay for.

If your friend has insurance, make him pay with his policy. Don't even inform your insurer of the accident. You'll be sorry you did.

I wouldn't let anyone drive my Elise w/o me in it.. not that the car is any special but the fact that it's so different to drive. Just the fact that they have to drive over speed bumps and into driveways scares me.. they won't do slow in, slow outs most likely..

Worst part is how long you will be away from it :(

I agree-if your neighbour is a cool guy he will rent you a nice sports car for the next couple of months.

If he isn't- you can poison a few of his plants :)

I think my heart just stopped :( -DAMN. Sorry.

You Just Learned to Say NO, Next time!

I know it's hard to say NO to friends; because it makes you feel bad about yourself if you refuse, but sometimes it's better to hurt a friend's feeling a little bit than what may happen later_ [Now both of you feel so aweful.]

The worst thing in this senario is that you let someone else drive your car while you ain't there. It's a painful experience!

Accident happens and, we all make mistakes.:(

So what are you going to drive now?
He's going to drive himself crazy thinking about why this happened!!

I feel for you! Hopefully you have a dealer close by to handle the repairs.

My dad always said "neither a borrower nor a lender be."

Jon,

So sorry to hear about your misfortune! On the good side, be thakful your neighbor isn't injured and suing you for allowing him to use an unsafe vehicle or some nonsense...I've heard stranger stories.

Anytime I loan it out, it's to someone with a more expensive car. I hold their keys and say "Don't wreck it...'cause I'll keep your car until mine's replaced and you can get a rental..." So far only two people have borrowed it-my buddy who has a 2006 Carrera S and a co-worker with his '07 Jaguar XK convertible.

Do you have a good shop lined up for the repairs? Crestone is excellent, if you're still looking.

+1. I wouldn't chance your insurance rate going up and your friend "making it right" in the future. Your insurance company will have a short term mysterious "base price increase" for your policy, "unrelated to this situation," just until the cost of your repair gets repaid to them, plus a little extra. At least that's what State Farm did to me several years back, after my rates had been going down for years.

Jon, I feel for you, man.

I just saw your poor car at FoD.

Luckily, you really only have damage that can be remedied by simple replacement of parts.

On a brighter note; this would be a great time to install the second oil cooler since yours only has one. Since the clam needs to be replaced, anyway, you can probably save some labor (that is, if you can't do that without removing the clam).

Another thought might be to replace with an Exige clam.

BTW, Global Collision took care of my recent clam replacement and did a super job.

Come to think of it, I have an Exige clam (ST) that has a small, easily reparable crack front and center.

Oh, well, hope to see you up and running soon!

p.s. Don't forget what Lotus acronymically stands for! :D

anyway hope noone enjoys these lol!

DAAAAAYYYAAAAMMMM! If you file a claim ask the insurance rep if your rates will go up. If it does, ask the rep to cancel the claim and make ur neighbor pay cash for the damages + extra $$ for your inconvenience.
