I’ve been missing my Apple CarPlay when I traded from my FRS to my 06 Elise (only thing I miss vs the elise). Does anyone have the radio linked below or any other better recommendations? Not super worried about price since I want the best since I’m a tech head and I hate latency and I also want to only do this once.

Otherwise I would consider their 7”

i have the joying 7" in my elise, which is just about perfect. it's very light weight (lighter than most single din), fits into the dash if you're willing to push it down and cover the hvac controls, has a volume knob, wireless carplay, and all the accessories you could want. the chassis comes with a regular sleeve so installation was quick and easy.
No matter what large screen you decide on, you really cant see the screen unless you lean over.

Is it snappy? Or does it have lag issues?

FYI I know the 6.2” is really popular here because it fits inside the radio cutout but personally I’m not a fan because it covers up the HVAC controls. Since the 7” and 8.8” don’t fit the cutout, you have the freedom to move it up and give yourself access to the HVAC controls.

The hvac controls are held in place with 2 screws, can easily be shifted over to the right.
But honestly how often are you adjusting the hvac? You can still reach them behind the screen you just have to remember what does what, or lean down and take a peak, they aren’t complicated.

if you want to have the screen up high, you have to extend the chassis way outside of the dash to clear the plastic. All the joying have vertical adjustment, but i wanted it nice and snug in the dash. You’ll see once you get started.

Everyone has different tastes, but I don’t think having the screen pulled out looks bad at all. Plus raising it up means you can peak at it easier. Also I’m adjusting the HVAC knobs fairly regularly so a screen that blocked them was a no go for me.

note: if I spent more time fiddling with it, I could have gotten the gap between the screen and the vent smaller.

I had a Joying 8" in my Evora and liked it so I got the 7" for the Elise.
Quality product. Direct plug-in to OEM connector (no soldering, no crimping!)
Nice to have Torque Pro and DashCommand again.

EQ and DSP allow much better sound out of crappy stock Alpine speakers.
I may make a spacer to push it out a bit so I can move it up a little more.
It does mostly hide the A/C controls but fortunately those are pretty simple.

I’ve been working on a new double din bezel for the past couple of weeks with the goal to get this CarPlay headunit to fit. Hopefully I’ll have the prototype finalized by end of next month.

what were your plans for vent air direction controls? do you know of one that is already in that shape that you plan to plug in?

I have a full Tesla kit FYI "paid way too much for it" if anyone can actually copy the parts I have them. Also there are now decks like this one that are just single din in size but the screen fill the double din. I think that will make it to where we don't have to cut the dash and do as much rerouting of the ac vents.

For those of you with the Joying 7" units, do you have any guidance/experience if it could serve as a replacement track data/video collector using RaceChrono / TrackAddict / Harry's since it is running Android? I assume with the 4G capability/wifi/GPS and bluetooth it could do the job, although I would probably still use a external GPS for faster data collection. But seems like this could work well so you do not have to use your phone all of the time.
