Front clam shell on national backorder?!?!

Long story short my Elise was backed into in April. Along with so many problems with the insurance companys, my parts finally get ordered to have the front clam shell come in damaged. Another clam shell is ordered which showed up today damaged yet again. Now I am told it was the last one in the country and I have to wait 6 weeks until another one can be shipped. This would put my car in the body shop for about 4 months total until it arrives. I am usually a pretty chill guy but this is really getting me frustrated and mad. I was told I could order an aftermarket or find a used clam if I could source one. Any help or suggestions?

Make them repair the damaged clam that was shipped, repaint it, and drive on.

Seriously, a lot of us have had front clam work done for various damages and it always sounds scary but comes out looking great without issue (me included- mine was damaged when I had it shipped by an auto transport when I moved... Late 60's thunderbird got loose in the trailer, rolled back, sat on my Elise's face! I was crushed)

Otherwise if that doesn't suit you it sounds like a big wait. I don't believe anyone makes aftermarket front clams, do they?

From what I've just been told, you could be waiting much longer than 6 weeks. Our parts department has been waiting for their clams since Feb. and the first batch of clams for the US are spoken for.

Good luck on the 6 weeks. It took me 6 months to get a rear. I even emailed England & asked them, with introducing 4 new models including a million dollar toy, did they drop servicing the cars they've already been paid for. Even threw in a "Should we get attorneys involved"? They said supply problems happen and basically could care less. What happens if your car is not drivable and Lotus has no parts for it?

You threatened an English low production cottage industry car producer to sue them if they don't make a spare part available for you in a reasonable amount of time? rotfl I imagine they had a good laugh about that email.
You might as well tell them you're going to tell all your friends at work to stop buying Lotus'?

Seriously, I feel your frustration, but Lotus has a long, rich history of being an automaker who scrapes by. They've never been a blue chip company who cowers to threats by anyone, much less individuals, even when GM or Proton own them.

Hey I heard about you through my Lotus dealer! He told me your story because I have an 05 that was backed into and he said he couldn't get a clamshell for me in a reasonable amount of time because months ago he started the process for a guy in Maryland which still hadn't been resolved. Therefore I'm putting a 2007 clamshell and headlights on to save time. I'm not entirely sure what the insurance company has to say about this, but it's not my problem (yet!).

Are the 2007+ headlights that much better than the 2005-06 ones? I am hoping so.
