Headlight Actuator Gear Repair Help

My left headlight struggles to elevate. The motor is running, so I must assume that it is the gear and the 3 small bushings that seems to be the Achilles heel for Esprits. Can anyone point me to a DIY for this repair? I've bought the kit and will repair both headlamp actuators.

Do you need to remove the motor assembly to access the gear/bushings?

Thanks,
Bob

The entire motor assembly comes out, but you don't have to completely disassemble that to replace the three bushings. Look at Lotus Esprit World Esprit Headlamp Lift Motor Refit for instructions on getting the motor assy. out The LHS is the more difficult on mine (an SE) because the brake fluid reservoir and plumbing makes access harder. But it's possible to do it. Then follow the instructions that came with the rebuild kit. I got mine from a Fiero site: Rodney Dickman's Vehicle Accessories. Headlight Motor Rebuild Kits
They came with detailed instructions. Note the motor assemblies are installed upside down in the Lotus compared to the Fiero. That means the LHS on the Lotus is the RHS on the Fiero and vice versa. For the Lotus again, the LHS was a bit trickier because it is harder to get the gear out to replace the bushings. Again, it's fiddly, but not difficult. The instructions I had covered that point too.
