k...ummm does tower paint have clear coat in a can for sale? the paint place i went to said that the clear coat requires a catalystic thats extra and has to be added in right before you spray. Will one can cover the engine covers, center console and HVAC? Did you guys use plastic adhension promotor? Did you guys sand inbetween coats? Whats the difference between enamel and lacquer paint?

I used krylon fusion, which has a built in promoter.

The difference between enamel and lacquer is only that enamel doesn't require a polishing to obtain a shine. The catch is that enamel paint is a lacquer paint. It's a confusing term really.

Ok, feeling bold last night, I tooks the silver sharpie advice and had a go at mine. Still not sure I'm up to coloring the logo, but I'm happy with the way this turned out.

It's the silver paint sharpie. It worked really well and didn't tax my limited abilities. We'll see how it olds up over time.

You need to touch up the paint pen tracing about once every six months to keep it looking good. No biggie.

I just left the spark plug cover alone... except for the SILVER SHARPIE outline!

I like how this matches the valve cover better. Looks like stock "should have been"

Brake calipers and shift knob next...

I decided to go for it and order some saffron spray paint,clear coat and some Testors green and black for the letters/logo....

light sanding (just enough to scuff it), wash, dry, paint.

I painted right over the krylon, as that acted as a primer for the lettering and the logo (which I painted recently)... The heat of the engine has pretty much baked the finish in place and it's holding up as if it were day 1.

My covers came painted, and are starting to bubble up at the edges. How heat-resistant is the Krylon Fusion paint? Do you think the bubbles are a result of poor surface prep or did they use the wrong paint?

acrylic paint set from 'Oakridge Hobbies' that has the silver
color I'll need for the lettering, as well as the yellow and
green I'll need for the emblem. Then went to Auto Barn for
a spray can of their Dupli Color Auto Spray Clear Coat
which I'll use to cover everything when I'm through.

I used 220 grit garnet, followed up by 300 grit aluminum oxide. honestly, I didn't spend more than 5 min on each piece. Quick wash, paint, and it was all done.

I didn't sand at all on the engine covers, used Crylon Fusion for the logo, but BRP paint in a can for the covers and they look just as good as day one. That was a year ago now.
