Did you do the 2 big ones towards the middle

 

I'd say you forgot 4 bolts. Can't really see anything from your photo to tell you which ones.

 

Ok I did have everything removed, but I was afraid to yank on it too hard.
i just hopped under it and played with it some more and is slid out. I’ll take a look later when it’s cooler and see what was holding it up.

I've seen various people put some kinds of rubber gaskets and found in parts of the diffuser to prevent vibrations. Could be that or the adhesives from it getting stuck.

 

I tried some searches for on LT for diffuser removal and exhaust removal but didn’t find anything. perhaps I’ll seach the site for tips on searching....

After you removed all the 6mm(?) fasteners, the 2 big bolts from the front middle, and dont forget the ones at the very front that attach to the next undertray, the diffuser is held in by two reinforcement bars that hang on something in the rear. So you slide it forward probably 3 inches and it should drop out.

 

I almost always remove the engine pan before the diffuser. It’s rare that I don’t need both out of the way, and when removing both it’s easier to remove the engine pan first.

Since I always need both off anyway I take both off as one unit. Yes, I never take off the 5 bolts holding them together.

Also, I unbolt everything with the car on the ground no problem. Then when I lift the first side, I pull the whole thing out the back.

 

When I drop my belly pan's it's onto a HF dolly with a 2" foam board on top it's slides out easily then and also allows cantilevering the belly pan into the slot easily with one hand.

I removed both 02 sensors and probably going to replace both as they are a pain in the butt to get out.
Riebis is has them in stock…is a certain brand preferred or to be avoided?

 

Update: auto parts store did not have the correct 02 sensor

ive been working on this PO171 code since about a week into acquiring my Lotus and I am itching for some long drives without staring at an engine check light!

 

If still having issues after replacing o2 sensors check for vacuum leaks and see if MAF dirty again.

P0171 Code and Running Rich???

I have had a P0171 Code (System too Lean) thrown a couple times in the last month on my 2007 Exige S. I have also noticed, to the contrary, that the engine seems to be running really rich (can smell a lot of gas at startup). I've checked for exhaust leaks, did my best to check for a vacuum...

Also get your battery checked. I had a P0171 that stayed no matter what. Did o2 sensors, propane checked for leaks, cleaned my MAF. Nothing would make it go away. Just threw a new battery at it and BAM all fixed up.

 

Never a bad idea to have battery load tested for intermittent and weird issues.

 

Is there a code reader that is generally advised for an 07 Exige S ????

 

An ELM327 clone with bluetooth and your favorite phone OBD reader app works fine.
I use a genuine ELM327 (OBDLink MX+) and Car Scanner Pro app on iPhone.

Yes, you can pretty much display and/or record any data from the ECU, including short and longterm fuel trim, O2, etc.

 

whats up with your o2 sensor ? desperatly looking to fix my P0420 code. I have a racing catalyser and unable to get the second sensor to fake a proper number for it not to trigger.
I've try some spacer so far.

P0420 simple?

I've popped a P0420 code that has returned each day. I've read through many posts regarding trouble keeping the code away. I'm hoping I simply have a bad O2 sensor. QUESTION: Has anyone experienced the P0420 pop and simply changed the 02 sensor, ultimately fixing the problem?!?

Thanks again for the tips. So to recap, I have replaced the MAF, made sure my gas cap is on and tight, the 02 sensors from monkey wrench racing are on order and will go in when I receive them. I am charging the battery (a small light weight one the seller said was fairly new but I'll check my receipts) then place on trickle charge.
Then off for a test ride.
If CEL comes up again I'll spray some starter fluid around the intake to hear for any vacuum leaks (should have done this first!) and have the battery checked. Only thing I can think of after that is fuel pump or/injectors (I've been running 91 Shell and STP injector cleaner).
I will also keep track of the mileage. I only had it for a week before the CEL so I don't have a lot of info, but I will pay close attention to see if the fuel mileage is normal- 25-28 MPG

 

New or old the only true test of the battery once you fully charge it is a load test. It's free so a no brainer.

 

Ok here’s the update. I replaced the 02 sensors (both pre and post cat), clears the code and drove it for 50 miles and no CEL. Usually I’d clear the code and within 10 miles it would pop up again- so something has changed. I’ll continue to drive and let folks Know how it goes.

i Took another short drive this morning and the CEL came back on....
Did I read somewhere on this forum that after fixing an issue and clearing all stored codes that a code will/can sometimes take a while for the ECU to get used to the change and not thro a code?

should I disconnect the battery and touch the negative positive end together to drain all charges in the system?

Oh yes,..battery was load tested and is good.
ill do the simple vacuum test today with starting fluid today

 

so the previous owner put in a Larirni club sport exhaust about 1500 miles ago. It passed CA smog last month when I bought it. Does the Larini usually come with any ECU tune? Can the exhaust be causing a CEL?

 

You might want to see if you can get an AFR reading on the vehicle. Most exhausts dont require a tune. Check for vacuum leaks, besides the exhaust, what else has been changed on this vehicle?

 

No other mods to the engine
ill play with my new OBD link mx code reader today and see if I can get some helpful data

 

You might need a O2 extender to prevent the codes. What code are you getting?
