Reverse wire?

Does anyone know the best way to tap into the wire for reverse? I am installing a backup camera with a HU that will switch to it when I shift into reverse. I tried the search function, but didn;t really get what I was looking for.

I don't know if this should go in the AV forum, it seems to overlap.

So is the best place to tap in by the shift lever? Is there anywhere in the dashboard to get in?

I am sorry BUT if you need a reverse camera for this car you probably don't need to be driving it. I think they come stock in minivans and are options on most SUV's
I dunno. This car has a large blind spots and reduced reaward visibility. Seems to be as bad or worse than most SUVs I've been in.

Thanks, you are really helpful.

I like to rely on more than "the force" to back up. Cameras are cheaper than clams.

The reverse light switch is not in the console. It's attached to the tranny. Wires lead to the back up lights.
Stan beat me to it...

Probably the simplest thing would be to tap into the wire in the boot. I assume that the wiring for the backup camera would be in the vicinity also, so the "backup wire" could run to the head unit with the rest of the wires...

Thanks to those of you who were helpful. I tapped into the wire in the boot. I can now see behind my Elise.

How about some pics of the screen?

Teekster, I'm in the process of gathering info for doing this myself. Did you run the camera through one of the grommets in the rear of the clam down to the space above the license plate? Did you mount it in any special way? Thanks in advance.
