Perhaps but it's a reliable workhorse with glorious sound. Exhaust note is just part of the total package when sizing up cars. It doesn't have to fake it's exhaust note with piped in exhaust notes like some. One of the best V6 exhaust notes out there.
Agreed. 4 cylinders are my least favorite engine for sound, and this is coming from someone who loves some 4 cylinder cars. I've heard three cylinders that have better sound. But a good V6 is a great noise.
 
The Elise/Exige has had four different Toyota engines in at least 8 states of tune not to mention the 4 variations of Rover engines. There's plenty of history to believe that if the 2GR is no longer available they can use a different engine.

But that's assuming Toyota needs to sell new cars with that engine in order to keep producing it, with is completely false. Toyota can keep making the engine forever as long as there's demand. It's very profitable to do so, actually. Lotus isn't buying them in the secondary market, or eBay.
