Would removing my cat. converter cause a longer crank to start condition?

I removed my converter recently and got a chance to drive the car for the first time today, it seems that once it is warm the car cranks longer to start, anyone think this could be related to my missing cat? My fuel accumulator is brand new BTW.

I don't see why it would.

When you say it takes longer when warm, how long? Does it run normally once it starts or does it take a few seconds to clear up?

Any difference in the fuel pressure cold and warm?

I had a hard hot restart problem. It would crank and crank and not start till it cooled off. Turned out to be bad/leaky primary fuel injectors. It can also be a bad "O" ring on the secondary injectors. This was on a V-8, no fuel accumulator. If it's happening on a K-Jet fuel system it usually means the fuel system is not holding rest pressure long enough. Among the possibilities are:
Bad check valve in the fuel pump
Bad accumulator (I know, you said you have a new one but maybe it's bad?)
Leaky Primary Pressure Regulator
Fuel leaks

I drove the car today and it didnt seem to have any issues at all with the restart. It actually feels a little quicker and smoother on the acceleration, like the turbo lag is not as noticeable, but then again I havent driven it for a little while also so it may be in my head. I love the sound of it though, its not necessarily much louder, just alot deeper. My wife says you can definitely tell now when im coming or going in the garage now.

Im going to replace my fuel pumps eventually just for the piece of mind in knowing they are new and wont leave me sitting someday. I was thinking the check valves in the fuel pumps may be to blame for my hard start condition.

I put some Techron fuel system cleaner in the car today, im gonna attempt to get the car out as long as the weather stays dry here and run it out of the tank and see if it makes any difference in any slightly rough idle or hard start conditions at all.

I removed the cats from my 88 Porsche s4.
I swear I had/have the same problem that you did!
result-up in arms?-strange.

After just having some major work done (V8 full rebuild - post to come soon), I also have a harder to start condition when it is warm. Cold starts are fine, and I never had a warm problem before.

But I have the stock cats and exhaust.

One thing I noticed - if I press the gas pedal a bit during the cranking it fires up faster, so my guess would be something fuel related (I know you are not normally supposed to have to hit the gas when starting a fuel injected car, but this seems to work). David mentioned related items.

As for mods, I did just add K&N air filters and HKS SSQV Blow off valves (not sure if either could have anything to do with it).

Anyone ever tracked this down?

My 89 has been with out a cat most of it's life. First because the core disappeared and then cause I removed it. Never an issue with long or hard starts. If you are having a problem with starting check elsewhere. If in doubt, replace the cat and see what happens.

From the pic by your name, it looks like you have an S4??? If so, the only time I had cranking issues was when the car computer would get confused and forget where to set the IAC for cranking/starting. Had to re-set the ECU with a driving procedure. Let me know if you want me to re-post that procedure.

I actually have an 88 Turbo with the Bosch K-jet system, I added that wing and it appears more like an S4. My hard start condition actually just occured for the first day after I took the cat off, it seems to of cured itself (scary), its been fine since.
