ECU re-load (reflash or reset) and learn mode

Today I ask my dealer to reset my ECU. They reload the program instead of resetting it.

This only took them less than 3 mins, most of the time was spending on booting the computer

Than I asked for how is the ECU learning process, they told me that it only start learning from the first 15min. after the reload the ECU. And they told me to drive aggressively in the first 15 min. and recomment to do reload after changing cooler and exhaust mods.

Is this true?

The computer will automatically adjust for things like atmospheric pressure, fuel octane, air density... but, if you change things beyond the normal parameters you will need a tune (fuel injectors, big pulley changes, etc.)

Small changes, like going to a Stage II exhaust, are handled by the ECU just fine.

exhausts are after any sensors, so unless it adjusts the back pressure and even then itd have to do a lot, theres no problem.

people don't seem to understand the difference between the emissions adjustments and the open fixed fuelling modes though, there are no changes done there. but at this stage it'll come down to who you believe ;)

the base idle learn takes 15 minutes,, ie idle it for 15 minutes is the factory recommended procedure, there is no 'learn' after idle, its a complete misnomer the car constantly corrects all the time, when its in closed loop mode.

My cable has been used for many reflashes while Phil @ BOE was getting it all just right, that functionality has worked great. I am very much looking forward to more diagnostics and hopefully logging functions. What is the plan for the software in the future? When will we see the diag functions released?

I'm thinking he has an Elise or an Exige w/ a REV 400 TVS supercharger. I bet it is quick like a bunny. I'm also thinking that there may be different states of tune, for different power levels, that you load from your laptop w/ the Koldfire software and OBD/USB interface cable that is included with all BOE blowers. Each with it's own flash load. But I'm just guessing.

Unless I'm mistaken ( happens more often than I would like to admit) you can get someone else to do that 260 reflash for you. Unless it's a warranty concern.
