As an owner of a 2021 AMG GLA 45 (Although has 400hp in the I4) which has pretty the same engine and transmission, I'd stay away from that combination in the Lotus. The shifting is really terrible in auto mode. It really doesn't know what gear to be in, or stays in the wrong gear for too long. You have to really put your foot down for a few seconds before anything happens engine-wise also. It does take off quite well once the turbos kick in, but you have to wait for it.

For naysayers of the AMG engine, curious what you would suggest instead? What ~400hp drop-in could Lotus have realistically bought that would fit in the Evora/Emira platform to replace the soon-to-be-discontinued-by-Toyota V6?
If it didn't need to be a 2 liter max due to Chinese laws, an Audi 5 cylinder with DSG.

But with the 2 liter maximum, the AMG engine is the most potent option.

Ford-Cosworth derived engine. Keep the British spirit intact.

A newer gen Toyota V6....DI side port.....

Is the layout of the 2gr-fe and 2gr-fse the same? If so was always surprised they couldn't go with the one with DI.

Regardless of shifter/shift cables/etc the biggest let down on all of these 2gr variants imo is that transmission out of a diesel tractor :D

^ The only Toyota V6 going forward is their truck engine, also used in the Lexus LS. Hardly ideal for a sports car application.
They have made several newer 3.5 L varaiations over the years sir. Many generations and upgraded DI versions. I believe even the first DI iteration was 305HP v the 2GRFe 268(Toyota)/276(Lotus)HP in NA form. Found in all Lexus products..........I bet you SC that motor you could easily be in the 425-450HP zone. Then all the peckawoods about HP would be happier. Its all about the CC limits around the world not real mpg numbers..............they have done some pretty stupid sh!! in the name of the environment. I will have plenty of time for the early adopters to expose all the flaws while I enjoy my freshly rebuilt motor which will run all day long with a 400/GT in its state of tune.

Your candor is greatly appreciated!!!
This would be like me loving everything about my 2015 2dr Evoque Dynamic EXCEPT the lousy tranny it had. Thde dreaded ZF 9 speed.

Did you get baseline and after tune dyno plots?

Newer maybe, but those are all in the past as well, or about to be. As I said, the only V6 Toyota will be manufacturing going forward is the V35A, which is a truck engine.

Bah... according to my humble point of view and the physics, (but I've not yet seen the graph), the 2.0 turbo should have the old pros and contros of turbo like:if you install small turbo you'll have torque peak at low rpm range, if you install big turbo, you'll have torque peak at high rpm, the rest will be empty. the good of supercharger is that despite the pressure is lower is constant through the whole rpm range and constant like a dc motor. like a naturally aspirated and NO LAG. then, the power COULD SEEMS the same but we are still talking about PEAK!, the supercharged v6 might have that kw for a longer rpm range which mean much more torque at the wheel

I have driven the AMG Emira and basically hated it. Its response time is so long, its hang-time before auto-shifting... Basically everything you have written was my experience...

A member of our local Club - besides being a Lotus owner - is a Mercedes mechanic, and his advice is to steer clear of that AMG engine at all costs. It is far and away the most repaired engine in his shop....
