Free Key Blanks

In appreciation for all the tips, advice and friends I've found on Elise Talk, I am offering free key blanks for anyone who may have trouble finding them locally!!!

These are General Motors X168 from the Ilco catalog. (My original Elise keys have plastic tops, but the X168 is all metal, no plastic.)

Note, some earlier model Elise have a "lighted key" that may be different from the X168. (Checking on this.)

Thanks to khamai for posting the part number in this thread:
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18758&highlight=X168

For your free blank, please send a self-addressed-stamped-envelope (SASE) to:

Harold Owen
P.O. Box 111 <--- not a typo, not a joke, no relation to M111.
Eldersburg, MD 21784-0111

Two per car. Optionally you can include a donation of $1-2, but it is not necessary. No questions asked. No gimmicks. My cost is approximately $0.50 per key. If there is demand, I will use the money to order another box and continue the offer.

I ordered the blanks from www.kaba-ilco.com in quantity of 50 where you can buy them direct. As a test, Home Depot cut two of these blanks right the first time, tested on all four locks.

Enjoy, and thanks for all the great information on Elise Talk!

EDIT: If you prefer, you can PayPal a buck to my e-mail address, mail@haroldowen.com. Note it costs me $0.36 more for PayPal and $0.39 per blank for postage to mail if you do not send a SASE. ...uh, but you guys are worth it?!? :D

Just noticed your address has
P.O. Box 111

Was that box 111 (as in Elise 111R) just a coincidence, or did you request it?
Total coincidence. It is my company's P.O. Box. Had it before my Elise. That is way too funny! :p

Thanks for all the positive feedback! Response has been great!!! :coolnana:

Bit of trivia, the box of keys is also marked "Lemans". Recall it is a GM key, so can someone confirm this is the Pontiac blank?

Those of us with the this whimpy-light key -- any idea what blank we could use? I'd be happy to buy a box.
I printed out the page referenced above somewhere that had the cross section of the keys. The X168 key appeared to have the same cross section as my lighted key. I don't know if the length is correct or not...

If someone with the lighted key wants to play guinea pig, I'll send a couple blanks. I'm not an expert in keys.
I'll bite... I'll send you the SSAE and the buck and see what happens...

Hey Tim-let me know if this works. I also have two of the old lighted keys. I didn't know that the key design was changed...

Harold....i did not realize I had the "lighted" key. My car is a Feb 05 build....I did not think it was that "early"

I am going to send the keys back to you....no problem on my part. The money I sent you should cover the cost of the postage.....so that should be all right for you.

You can give these to someone else...or if you have an address you want me to send them to...let me know

Someone who wants a set, please PM their address to Tony. Thanks.

Tony, thanks and sorry for the confusion. So can you confirm for TimMullen and FlyLo that the lighted key is really different?

Sure looks like it to me. What I can do is stop by a key place and have an expert look at it...

Lighted key is backwards

I have tried to get a new key made and have gone to three locksmiths. The X168 is very similar, but reversed. No one was able to come up with a blank that worked. They all said that it would have to come from the dealer. I'm sure that Lotus used an existing key set for these, but no one can seem to figure out what it was.
