Price Reduced from $37k to $34,900

Hi Everyone, I am selling my 05 Elise with 16,7XX miles. I mainly used it to drive to and from work (62 mile round trip) and the occasional car club meets, never tracked. It has the Touring pack and also has the ITG carbon fiber intake and the billet aluminum floor matt caps. Other than that it's stock. All maintenance performed by myself and up to date (I am an Acura Technician). I hate to let her go but I have just entered the vintage bike scene and my interests have turned to 60's and 70's Honda bikes. Feel free to contact me with any questions at 239-682-3611. I am located in Naples FL. Asking price is $34,900k but negotiable. Thanks, Erik

I'd say its market value is $32-33k on ET.

This is really puzzling me.... Why do people on this forum like to sell their cars cheap or are telling someone the car should be sold for less money? I would think people on this forum would rather try to protect their investment.
I heard from a Lotus dealer today that he could not believe what's going on here. He said this is the best place to find a cheap car since a lot of people on this forum are lowering the value of their own cars. Therefore, the cars are depreciating a lot faster than an average rate for this type of cars. He also said at the dealer auto auctions these cars are bringing strong money right now.

You should sell your car somewhere other than this forum. This forum is a good place to do some research and compare the products and services. But not a good choice for selling your car. Also remember that the majority of people here already own one.

That's very true. It's good you realize all those things. I think a lot of cars on ET are tracked (which isn't abusive to the car at all if the mileage isn't too high) and many of us simply do not need a Lotus. Most people in the know realize there is too much supply for the demand while those just coming into the market may think that they are still in short supply (like I did a year ago). Bottom line, you need a buyer that isn't familiar with the marketplace. I'll bet that Lotus dealer wouldn't give you $28k for you car.

As for protecting our cars' values - we do that by driving them, cultivating the very qualities that make them so desirable for those that truly understand their significance and being in the community. The people selling them (like you) are the ones causing the prices to depreciate. No criticism intended, but you're ditching your lotus for a porsche, so it seems obvious to me that you don't get the real value that the Lotus offers that the Cayman never will (even if it's laptimes are equal or better.) The majority of those moving on simply want streetable sports cars with more luxurious appointments. That's a lot of people - and that's why the prices are so low for used lotuses.

Like others have said, I'd stick pretty close to your asking price, but I wouldn't expect to sell it here. $35,000 would be a good deal. $32-33 would be a steal.

This is largely why we don't allow price discussions in 'for sale' threads, though in this case it's of course different since the seller asked. One or two people may post an idea of what THEY think the price should be, but that does not necessarily represent the market in general nor the entire ET population, but can greatly influence a sale of that car and also influence the sale of future cars if ET readers begin to accept as fact what people tell them about what a used Elise should sell for. The reality is the price will vary by many, many factors, and it all comes down to 'what will someone pay'.

Little high for the miles...
i priced em out all over (i didnt check ET however) before buying in the spring, and, yes, seems about 5-7% high for the miles. easy to find an 05 with half the miles. my 2 pence.

supply and demand

It all comes down to supply and demand!

Finding a buyer is the hardest part about selling any car no matter who makes it. What its worth is only relivant to the individual buyer that is willing to pay for it. Some will pay more than other as we all know.

The starting price is relivant but not always the determining factor to the final price. You can say firm or you can say best offer and come down.

Your price is also relivant to how quick or how long you want to wait for the sale.

I guess a better questions is how fast do you need to sell the car. The lower the price the faster it will sell.

GOOD LUCK and I hope you get every penny it is worth. I would like to see all our cars pull top dollar and not depreciate!

honestly.. mileage is pretty insignificant in high performance cars and let me tell you why..

a well kept higher mileage car is almost ALWAYS the better performing and more reliable purchase.. buying a car with 50k well maintained miles on it means you have a car that is broken in and ready to be driven..

In my opinion all these garage queen cars that NEVER get driven like older ferrari and lamborghini's are a joke and a waste of machinery..

In the case of the elise 16k miles is NOTHING on a toyota drivetrain.. god that motor can probably do 300k without much upkeep..

BTW gorgeous car Storm titanium is my absolute favorite color on the elise.. no hardtop?

considering a dealer was selling new 06's for $37k recently I think anyone asking for over $35k is smoking some strong dubie...that is just my opinion though. 05s should all be in the low 30s right now.
Are you saying this because you're thinking of buying or are you smokin' some strong dubie?

AcuraTech.... Your price looks fine unless you're desperate to sell. Nice car.
