peahee,
What paint did you use? Also you guys that have painted covers. Did you sand the covers to eliminate surface texture as it's got a bit of roughness to it.

I want to do this to mine in solar yellow.

Thanks
Chris
I had the body shop do mine, not sure what they all did but it looks really good.

2 words, CABLE MANAGEMENT. (looking at your TV/PC/ETC)

;)

I'll go down and take some pics in a bit. I think mine came out nice, the green is a nice contrast with the solar yellow, a little lighter than I was targeting but I'm pleased with the result. It is kind of neat how you can see them through the grill on the Exige hatch.

But, I also feel inadequate. Frank's covers with the stripe look awesome. And peahee's two tone. And, and... They all look really cool. Anyway, pics coming in a little bit.

Finally got to mine

Well I've been meaning to do this mod for quite some time and the rain this weekend finally got to me so here she is. Easy mod, I just used a Silver Metallic Sharpie from my daughters art supplies.

Looks good. Did you tape anything off or did you just go freehand?

Scotty,
any issues with engine heat affecting the sharpie?
I did mine as well using not a Sharpie but a paint pen from the art store, it's like Stan's red and black. So far mine has been rained on and driven in 100+ degree heat and it looks to be holding up fine.

Not yet, but I'm keeping an eye on it.

I figure if it does discolor, I can always paint it and do it the hard way.
My wife did ours last fall (hey she wanted to help!) - no heat issues so far...

Bolts/Cap Heads

What did any of you guys do for stainless cap heads. My stock ones have rusted and I'm looking to replace them, although Im not sure what size they are?

Thanks

Painted Engine Covers

I finished my engine covers yesterday. It took me some time to find a yellow that would closely match the Saffron Yellow exterior. Valspar "Odds 'N' Ends" 107S Sunshine Yellow was perfect. The yellow color is identical the Lotus Saffron Yellow in normal sunlight, incandescent lights, and warm white fluorescent, but very slightly different under cool white fluorescent. The silver lettering is from Testors Aluminum 1181 and the black primer was Krylon Fusion for Plastic. It was all top coated with Krylon UV-resistant Clear. After each coat air-dried for 24 hrs the pieces were backed in a 150 oF oven for 4 hrs.

Thanks for the inspiration from LT contributors!!!!

P.S. don't try this in California. Some of the paints contain components that are known to cause cancer in California (according to the labels). Sounds like a dangerous place - glad I don't live there!

Nice job guys!
I began by painting my covers with a flat white to make the red as bright as I could (I was going for an Ardent Red.) Then I applied several coats of hi-Temp Krylon with lots of 'dry-time' in between. I finally used Testors model paint to fill in the logo with a small flat brush, it just puddles in there but creates air bubbles at time. You simply 'poke' those with the brush. I did 2 coats there too. The Testors silver did not apply that smoothly for some reason. I applied several coats but you can still see streaks. I finally coated the whole thing with a hi-temp clear coat. After about 2 months, the whole surface is a bit gritty and if I wipe or wax it, it creates serious cloth scratches.... So I let it be.... It still looks good and I think the white helped the color remain very bright.

I painted mine myself with Krylon spray and then used Testors model paint with a very fine point brush and alot of patience. I then sprayed a clear coat over the pieces after they were dry. Looks good on a Saffron Yellow car. I learned how to do this by this Forum. Thanks guys. :shift:

I used red Fusion paint then hand painted the letters with testors model paint and clear coated everything. To do the yellow and green in the logo you need to use some thinner to get it runny like water so that it will fill in evenly. Otherwise it will clump up on you.
Dear "PIG" member... I find it interesting that you copied both MY text and the photo of MY engine! Are you incapable of writing and taking pictures?
