Should I install racing pipe and Chip ?

Hi:
When I test drove my Esprit it had a Racing pipe and ECU. The car sounded absolutely wicked and turned heads everywhere on my test drive. The dealer would not sell me the car until it passed smog and all the original parts were re-installed. Even the Lotus steering wheel by Momo! The car sounds ok but really miss the other setup. What do you think about re-installing the Race setup for street driving? Have no plans of using the car except as a weekend car. Will the motor run hotter with the Performance setup etc? Thanks!

I assume the "racing pipe" means no CATs or muffler. If the"racing ECU", did not monitor the post cat O2 sensor, then the car would run without generating a CEL. The real question of, will the engine survive, depends on what the "racing ECU" is? There are several versions of these floating around in the marketplace. Some good, some not so good. You need to know what you have.

I can say I have upgraded the car to the Hi Torque ECU and Hi Flow cats. This made a major difference in the overall performance of the car and the sound all while not at all effecting diveability.

Full on Race ECU may be another story.. and do you need it..?

Thanks for the replies! The car came with some accessories, there was a full pipe system and a Race ECU on her when I first drove her for a test drive. IT came off and now both items are just sitting dormant. I know a wealthy collector owned it before me and I am sure the parts are top quality. I can look at the Race ECU for a part number etc? I do say the car sounded like a mini Formula one car, was so cool to drive because of the magical exhaust notes.

The factory issued Red Race ECU's were actually painted red! If the outside is not painted red then it's someones aftermarket Red Race ECU. If you open the top cover and see two sockets with memory chips then it's definitley somebody's after market chips. Without a invoice in your documentation it would be almost impossible to tell from where it came.
