Well, I had all of the intentions of going up to Lotus of Durham, just to test drive a car since they didn't have the color I wanted according to the web site. However, when I called they mentioned that they had a 05 LSS Saffron Yellow that was not listed! So much for just looking!!!:D Here is my new baby with Merlin beside it. And no he is not allowed in the car, not that he even fits!:crazyeyes

Looks nice! Great to see another one in NC. Those pics really help to put the size of the car in perspective.

Sort of, as most people don't realize how BIG Merlin is!!!:D He is 36" at the shoulders!!! We keep him pretty lean though, he weighs in at 165 lbs.

damn, that's a big dog. I would be afraid not to neglect him too much after getting an Elise/Exige for fear of him sh*tting & pissing all over my car. rotfl

looks like chrome orange for sure!

'06 Canyon Red LSD/TC, LSS, Touring

OK, add me to the list. As my S2000 buddies say, I've "gone over to the light side." Really digging this car now that it's broken in...

Very large thanks to Neil and Eric at Autostrada in Austin TX for setting me up with the Canyon Red '06 LSD/TC, LSS, Touring they've had in their showroom for a while. I couldn't find a used LSD-equipped car, so Autostrada really put in the extra effort to make this little '06 fit the bill -- changed out the interior from biscuit to black just like the pics/video at InsideLine's review for Edmunds.

Best regards,
Stanford

Nice Car.....Welcome to the world of Lotus!

Thanks! Wasn't sure how I'd like the Canyon Red until I saw it in different lighting on the Inside Line review http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FullTests/articleId=108618 Then, I was hooked. Since you're in CA, can you tell me what the emissions testing process is out there for new cars? I may have an opportunity to get out there sometime soon and I'd like to know if they test new cars after 4 years or what the process is (will determine whether I eventually install the supercharger setup from the Exige S or go with a turbo from ForcedFed).

Answer to your question: Upon initial registration, nonresident and specially constructed vehicles 1976 and newer require smog certification. The six or less model years old rule does not apply to these vehicles.

I picked up my '05 LB last week and finally took some pics this past weekend after a good wash. I'm loving every minute of it so far!

Yeah, I'll throw in my 2 cents, but I know people will say it's been done many times in the forum :) .

I guess it really depends on what you want out of a car... I have had 2 S2000's (2000 and 2004) and loved them both - really good cars.

In the Lotus I miss:

- cruise control
- more cabin room to switch positions on long drives
- trunk space (though the Elise has plenty for me)
- power top (not a huge deal, but with the S2k I can put the top up in 7 secs or whatever it is any time I leave it)

I got into the S2000 for the first time on Sat after driving the Lotus for 4 days, and it just didn't do it for me anymore. The car looks so plain to me now, just like a miniature family car. Don't get me wrong - The S2K handles great and is a blast to drive (especially the tranny/gearbox makes it fun). The Lotus is just so much more of a sports car. The S2k steering wheel felt HUGE compared to the Lotus, but before I felt the S2k wheel is tiny.

The Elise feels a whole lot stronger/faster to me. Having the engine directly behind me could have a part in that (the sound). I think the S2k supposedly runs a 14.1 in the 1/4 and the Elise a 13.5 or so. I just like having a car that you won't see others of around. I'm positive I'm the only one in the county and who knows how far out down here with an Elise so NO one knows what it is. That's the part I love about it...

I'm waiting to see how reliable everything is with the Elise. I'm not expecting any problems, but I never had ANYTHING done with the S2k's other than oil/tire/brake changes (with 80k on the old one). I've wanted to own the Elise since it came out in magazines so just checking off another car on my list and enjoying every minute of it so far!

BTW, after 8 days of ownership, I've put 1300 miles on the Elise - comfortable besides the previous stated no cruise control (legs get cramped in one position).

Basically, I think I'll be an Elise or Exige owner for quite a while for now unless something comes up that forces me to have something bigger. When I sell the S2k, it'll be the only vehicle I own so will have to accomodate me and anything else I need done

This may not include anything you wanted to hear, but o well... let me know if you wanted anything specific. Thanks!

Stantaur's g/f checking in here (also a fellow S2000 owner). I'm sure he'll weigh in soon with an ultra-detailed, insightful review, but the turbo and suspension setup on his S2000 change things a bit with regard to the comparo.

They are both a whole lot of fun to drive, but in very different ways. The Lotus feels like a shifter kart, very direct and a very uncompromising sports car. The S2000 offers some of the same attributes, albeit watered down, but couples them with more creature comforts and daily driveability. As the previous poster mentioned, the true convertible top is a bonus (especially when a top down day turns wet quickly), and I never realized how much I value a strong air conditioning system until I drove/rode in the Elise in Texas in August and September. The seats in the '06 Lotus are kinder on my lower back than those of the '05, but those in the S2000 feel luxurious in comparison and are far better suited to long distance driving. Both seats are snug and do a great job of keeping the driver in the correct place and stable in hard cornering.

Like the previous poster, we had lots of miles on it within no time at all (I think 1100 in 8 days), and to be out of break-in was like opening that last, awesome present under the Christmas tree! The driving feel in the Lotus is pretty unbeatable. I love how perky and responsive it is, without a hint of lag or delay. The gauge cluster is simple and uncluttered (it is in the S too, just, again, in a different way), which makes it easy to keep a quick eye on in spirited driving. Both cars, tire dependant of course, feel glued to the road and have the proper weight balance to make it easier to control and predict what the car will do. I'd give the edge to the Lotus on this though, as it's just a bit easier to throw around.

I used to complain about the stock stereo in the S2000 and said I had never heard anything worse... until he got the Elise. I won't go on too much about it, as I'm sure I'll just be repeating things said here many times before me, but I'm really glad it's all upgradeable!

When the Elise was only a day old, we took it to the national S2000 Club of America's (S2KCA) annual event (we planned to go anyway, so we just took the new ride as well as the S2000T), and the Elise was a very popular attraction at the event! Obviously between the two, the Lotus is the rock star when it comes to exterior appearances. I still get appreciative looks when I drive my S, but I know better than to get into the Elise without putting on makeup, lest I feel self conscious for not having done so when the slack-jawed stares start. It is utterly annoying, however, to have to wait for him to come around to whatever side of the car I'm on before I get out if I'm wearing a skirt, so that he can guard me and the day's underwear choice from the prying eyes of nearby perverts (some of the S2000 guys have argued that this is a design *feature* versus a design flaw). Ingress and egress are just plain contortion in the Elise, so I'll give that point to the S2000 without any reservation. I can't even imagine what my chiropractor would say, and he's a fellow car geek too.

The fact that a tap to the rear of the Elise is a catastrophic repair scenario gives me no shortage of willies when I drive it; I sure wish there was another way to address the construction of the front and rear to retain separate replaceable bumpers, but it is what it is.

It's fun and worthy. I think I'll let him keep it ;)

Dad has Lotus and has had for 1 year...just about 4-5 weeks ago found this forum website and decided to join. Just now getting car pics up....not new or just delivered..but i thought i'd post a few anyways for everyone...
