How did this crash happen?

That looks like the classic move of disabling traction/stability control, flooring it, losing grip, and instead of being gentle on throttle and counter-steering, lifting. The lift transfers weight forward and back and comes around, since the heavy ends want to be in front. Even if they saved it, though, they could have sideswiped an adjacent car because a counter-steer to catch a slide costs some lateral movement.

A couple of things:
  • Wet/cold + Cup 2's
  • Undulation in the road caused the car to hop/skip ever so slightly. Stiffer suspension+short wheelbase in above conditions with those tires.
  • Too much throttle for both conditions and equipment above
Granted, car could have been saved with quick corrective inputs afterwards, it was too late after the lift off.
