Shinoo,

How's the prototype working?

What size is it?

When do you think that they'll be available for purchase?

Thanks!

I'll bolt on the prototype tomorrow. The Elisetalkers that come out to the Carlsbad car event will get a chance to check it out and give feedback this Sat.

Expect production parts by mid to late Feb.

Shinoo,

Will the smaller mirror have a day/night feature? I saw the pictures in the Sector 111 email. It looks nice.

It would be nice if a day/night reflector was used instead of a simple mirror, even if there is no lever for moving between day and night modes. I can just re-aim the mirror by hand to switch between day and night reflectors.

I knocked the mirror and it fell off. There seems to be too much clearance between the ball and socket for it to stay on. What am I missing? :wallbang:
Is tha stalk still attached to the windshield? If so, you might want to take the mirror apart and see if there is a clip on the inside. The glass comes off quite easily by removing the outer plastic lining with a small screwdriver and prying it off. Then take the glass out and see if you broke something on the inside. I can't remember tf there was a clip inside or not. If the mirror needs to be replaced, the GM part number is on the back. I would suggest you buy it from GM rather than Lotus.

Okay, I got the mirror off and found a little plastic clip but cannot figure out how it goes together.
I beleive that clip hooks on to the stalk that is still in your car. So you need to insert the stalk into the back of the mirror, and then you will see where it goes. It holds the stalk into the mirror. Then you can place the glass back in while the mirror is hanging in the car. Otherwise, you need to remove the stalk from the windshield. Which isn't too hard. However, placing the mirror back on the windshield is hard and if you use too much force, you can crack the windshield. So I suggest you assemble the mirror in the car.

Can't say I love shinoo's new mirror. Both the oval shape and the chrome edges (back?) seem to clash with the rest of the car.

My S1 Elan had a small black mirror with a very good glass. It did not have a day/night capability and might be a tough retrofit. (Not a good view, and the car is gone.)

What about the Euro version mirror? Didn't I hear that it is smaller?

I agree about the oval mirror - it looks like it belongs on some '40s/'50s hotrod. Now a similar sized rectangular mirror... :)

Here's a picture of the factory mirror in my Elan S4 Sprint. It's probably not the same as the S1 Elan's mirror. It's 8 inches wide and 2 inches high compared to the Elise's 10 by 2.5 (also compared to my Miata's mirror that is 9.5 by 2). Sorry for the dirty windshield in the picture...

The mirror on my car is a prototype. The shape will be the same but they will be available in either black or brushed Al- not chrome. The main objective was to make it as small as possible to minimize the r/h turn blind spot created by the stock mirror while still providing enough rearward visibilty. We've achieved that goal with our microMIRROR.

I think the oval shape complements the curvy styling of the Elise perfectly. My eyes see alot of oval and round shapes on the Elise. :)

Shinoo

I absolutely agree with reducing the size. Most of what I see in mine are headrests and rear deck. I am guessing four to five inches wide by two high will show everything possible behind us. Both black and brushed Al would be fine with my AR/black interior. I'm still not sure about the oval? Maybe when I see it.

My Dave Bean parts manual left with my Elan. Any chance you have one and it lists the S1 mirror? I know they were hard to get at one point.

Don't know what the heck these guys are writing about. The mirror looks perfect. I want one. When can I get it? It's a must upgrade
