Today when I got out of the car I noticed smoke coming from the right side of the radiator. It didnt have a burning smell to it and only the right side was hot. The AC or heat hasn't been ran at all today. It hasnt been driven hard recently either. Anyone know any causes for this?

White, grey or black smoke?

No Pope selection jokes...:D

Any noticeable smell?

White could be coolant and water or just steam from surface water. Grey could be electrical, but it would have a distinct acrid smell. Black could be oil.
Maybe there's a leak in the line to the oil cooler.

There wasnt a noticeable smell from the inside or out. And yes, the car was caught in a torrential downpour of rain.

I still remember the first time it happened to me; taking the car for a spin after a wash, only to see smoke coming from the radiator when waiting for the traffic lights. It really freaked me out at the time. :)

God likes me.... he told me the other day. And I already knew it was water boiling off the radiator. I just wanted to make sure people on here knew.

It happens to me alot on cold mornings when dew collects on the radiator. I've driven autocrosses where the first run I will start out with a little steam coming up and as soon as I start my run, the steam will float back to my windshield and blind my view.:panic:

you should not be concerned or care until you see fire :thwack:

I have experienced this same thing right after I wash the car and water is on the radiator. As the car heats up in that area the moisture is simply being evaporated off and due to the amount of air that comes across the nose and through the top vents, it will appear a a slight white color (almost like a small amount of fog) and it simply moves across the windshield, fogging up a little and then evaporates as quickly as it came. After that initial burn of of the excess moisture it's fine. There is no odor, no mechanical effects, and only happens when it's been washed or in some heavy rain, and only does it as it warms up. Hope that helps

helppppppppp

I had a similar problem this morning. It has been raining all this morning and i warmed it up, took it for a spin, got a couple minutes down the road and it started steaming. I tried venting the windshield but no ventilation was coming out! My question is would the rain on the outside of the radiator, in some way, cause my ventilation inside the car not to work???

Normally the symptom of a defective Resistor Pack.

The same thing just happened to me in this cold day right after washing it. A very visible steam fog emerging in the right side (from the cockpit) of the radiator.

The thing that worries me is that a week ago I show some pink water drops near that area. Could it be not just the washing up of the car, but some holes in a water hose or the radiator?

In that case, will be safe to run kinda 400 miles (to my mechanic's site) checking the water level and refilling if needed?

(I'm pretty sure mechanics in the area where I am wont be able to deal with the front part of the elise)

Please, are you trying to tell us that you need a mechanic to check your coolant level

There's not much of a refil provision in the front of the car either since the coolant reservoir is in the engine compartment.
