Made a tool to check cylinder nip, and a cam pulley lock to ease my first in-car timing belt change.
Put the head on, I hope the shims behave.
Given how much work you've done, wouldn't it be easier to do with the engine out? Purely informational as I'm about to undertake a timing belt/water pump/tensioner bearing/valve lash service, and given to tight confines on the front of the engine, it looks as though you need to be a magician to get it done in the car.

Can't say yet if it would be easier, I'll know when I'm done with the belt & tensioner. I've had the engine out twice or thrice, but I thought that I'd skip a lot of hoses and linkages if I did the engine tilt method for the head gasket. My replacement oil hoses are stiff enough that it can be an hour or two just to get them threaded back on the adapter alone. I'm hoping that my single belt set-up up front will help reduce the timing belt complexity.

I'm checking my valve clearances tomorrow, that will determine engine out, or engine in for the rest of the work....I bet you know what I'm hoping for...

Not sure I understand. My 87 is in the shop having many tasks including new valve tappets (and adjusting valves with new shims as required).

The engine had a Gates blue belt installed, alternator belts, etc replaced. Even with the valve tappet and timing belt work, the engine stays in the car. Since mechanics are doing the heavy lifting, I can't say if it's easier to pull the engine. But they did 3 timing belts (2x on 88 and 1x 87), 2x valve tappet/adjustments (1x88 1x87) and engine was never out.

Well, after fixing a blown head gasket recently, I have been inspired by the coming summer driving season. Rear wing removed and holes filled, new HID fog lights, F1 style adjustable strobe 3rd brake light, plastic-dipped wheels and wing mirrors and a few more things planned (rear diffuser?, ducktail aluminum wing?) Anyone interested can see the mods/repairs here;

I just removed the halogen bulbs and installed the HID bulbs. then mounted a ballast for each between the bulb and the factory wiring harness.
