WEll for all the it will never happen to mes out there... it did and it didnt... my neighbor wanted to suprise his wife and begged me for a month to let him take her out in my elise...I said sure (known him 5 years responsible friendly and he never calls the cops on my parties...)

Well about2 hours later I get a phone call... "IM NOT HAPPY.." he says...

long story short he was boxed in, the car in front of him swerves and there is a box full of random stuff/junk...he couldnt avoid slowed to 65 he thinks...

The front grill is still MIA the headlights ALL popped out, most of the clam from teh grill under is missing (65% or mroe i would say) various cracks in clam as well...many smudges in starshield... the radiator hose was dragging (i secured it) and the flat metal underneath has been crumppled to the axel like an accordian... I am having it towed to denver tomorrow...

I will be posting pics tomorrow as well... i have recently changed jobs and have not been able to post lately... what a welcome back... after being on the forum for some time it looks like I am due a new clamTADTS and starshield plus whatever it costs to fix the underside, as well as the crumpled metal cut the black plastic box the radiator sits in... So yea welocme to teh club me

~JON

p.s. I am not even mad at some level i prepared myself for this day... and noone was hurt its just a car blah blah, I AM JUST PISSED I WILL BE MISSING A TON OF AUTO-X... hes going to pay the deductible... but still...THIS IS MESSED UP I JUST SET MY 7500mile service i am at 8800 miles... *insert curse words of choice here*

Won't his insurance cover it since he was driving?

If you filed a claim on your own policy, won't your insurance go up ?

Insurance laws vary state to state, in California insurance follows the vehicle so your policy is primary. If you don't have full coverage then his policy goes into effect. It's a toss up if your insurance will go up, in all reality it shouldn't but many factors come into play and different companies have different policies, ultimately it's up to the underwriter. After this incident you will probably be asked to list your neighbor as a named non-insured if not do it anyways, it shows the insurance company that you are eliminating that risk.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. The roads in Colorado Springs are among the worst I've ever seen in the States. The box of junk/stuff probably bounced out after the driver hit a pothole.

Wow... That's horrible! Let us know what happens.

I gave the keys to my Exige S to a co-worker last week. The worst thing that happened was that she got pulled over for speeding. (Apparently she knows how to use the car properly.) The cops let her go.

I trust her though. Her past/present cars include a Z06, Boxster S, EVO, M Coupe and 997 GT3.

The insurance does follow the vehicle (my uncle is an insurance/personal injury lawyer here). But becasue I was not the one driving my rates wont go up...he said if they do he will assist me in righting the wrong... it still makes me sick...I remember loving going to the garage in the morning...:(

and I will try and post some pics after work..so later tonight

UGH! I'm sorry to hear that your generosity was "rewarded" in this way :(

I'm weird. I won't drive other people's toys, especially my friends' (although I'll gladly drive demo cars :) ). Similarly I don't allow anyone to drive mine.

I'd imagine that from now on you may adopt a similar "policy".

Having ridden motorcycles for years, I find myself always imagining the improbables that could happen and trying to position myself better within traffic for reduced risk.

I'm not saying it could have been avoided. Well, okay I am saying that, but I'm not berating the neighbor. As soon as you anticipate one possibility and position yourself to avoid it, some other hazard you failed to anticipate can bite you in the ass just the same.

Sorry to hear your ass was bitten. Hope you can get somebody who takes pride in perfection to fix it back up for you.

I let other people drive my car, but only if I'm in the passenger seat. They are less apt to do something stupid. And, if something out of their control happens, it probably would have happened to me and I'll deal with it.

Oh, by the way. Tell your neighbor he is off my potential driver list!

Terrible!

I hope you get back on the road soon! :shift:

Worst part is how long you will be away from it :(

Horrible news - that feeling has to be the worst.

I loaned out my 99 Vette to a co-worker to go to a church from a wedding reception to pick up a tripod they left and he took the long route - the route that included a winding road where he took out a light pole with the side of my car. In Louisiana - the insurance follows the car and thus I would have had to pay for it except he came up with the $6k to cover the damages...

Now the only drives that people get are with me in the passenger's seat.

Who was the box for? Might they be liable for the damages?

A friend did the same thing to my S2000. Turns out he lied about having his own policy... he was piggybacking on his wife's policy on his (her) car. He wrecked my S2000 and paid for the deductible, but my policy went up $600+ per year for over 2 years, which he didn't pay for.

If your friend has insurance, make him pay with his policy. Don't even inform your insurer of the accident. You'll be sorry you did.

I wouldn't let anyone drive my Elise w/o me in it.. not that the car is any special but the fact that it's so different to drive. Just the fact that they have to drive over speed bumps and into driveways scares me.. they won't do slow in, slow outs most likely..
