Latest rumors...

Here are the latest rumors, straight from my salesperson's mouth at LOA:

1. The Exige is coming to the US but he didn't say when.
2. Lotus will also offer us an Exige R model that is supercharged to 260 bhp. 0-60 in 3.8.
3. Lotus is going to start an Elise only racing series here in the US.

Is any of this true? Who knows. Perhaps the salesperson has some inside information from the factory, or he's making it up to sell more cars. I'm just repeating what he said.

Hmmm... The S2 type Exige as we know it in Europe or a redesigned Elise/Exige? Wish I knew for sure. I'll check out those other boards.

OMG - sweet!

edit: time to put in deposits just incase the rumor is true??? I wonder if SVAG will take a deposit on a car that's all rumor?

double edit: Any idea on if a US Exige would be track only? Will the US allow a car on the street with no rear view??

The idea of the Exige coming to the US has been in work for some time. If you do a search, you will note me commenting on that... more than once. :)

And the point is, they do not want to bring in an Exige that is not faster than the Elise.

The rumors of them testing a supercharger....and another engine, have been around for more than a year now. I hear rumors that the planned engine upgrade was stopped, but not the supercharger.

I heard rumors of 245-255hp, but my rumors are older. :)

Interesting to me... that stuff I was told to not repeat.. is being mentioned off the cuff at the LA Auto Show.

Unless their policy has changed, no. For the Elise, they wouldn't take deposits until the official announcement was made that it'd be coming to the US (Jan 15, 2002 I think). In the meantime, they can add you to a list of interested people to be notified as soon as deposits are being taken.

That is not just information from the salesperson. I was getting my car serviced last Thursday (12/30/04) and Mr. English was there at LOA and providing information about the new Exige to the US. I heard limited numbers around 500 and not a long wait until they will be available. I also heard hp in the upper 200's and a price in the $50k's. Read between the lines, probably upper 50's. So I took this information from the horses mouth as sincere. Well I am on a list for one, for what it's worth.

hard to believe i put my deposit down months before the Elise was introduced at the L.A. car show..... and still no car in my garage?!?!?

excuse me, i need to go puke now

I find it interesting that the proposed Exige would be in the upper $50Ks price range. Given the performance capability, that's quite a discount for 'lack' of amenities, imo. Bravo!

Black standard rims are now going to be an option and may only be a couple hundred at the most, but not for LSS. However, it is true that the LSS rims are now being painted silver and Lotus did this because the prior finishing took too long to produce and it therefore produced the LSS delay in the beginning. Lotus is in the process of going back to the original wheel finish by use of a lacquer.

EDIT: I forgot to add that the delay in LSS was also brought on by the fact that Lotus had anticipated 20% LSS sales when in reality it was double that.

Sounds like Lotus does not want to compicate the manufacturing process in a way that could lead to slowdowns, but more factory options seem like a great way to generate more profit and keep the base price down.

Black wheels, short shift kit, interior options, custom colors, supercharger, etc. Those kind of items. :) Oh well, Shinoo doesn't mind!

It's very interesting the prospect of a SC Exige, but let's not forget that an Exige will need to comply with bumper regulations and will likely look vastly different than our Elise. The clock is ticking on the federal exemption.

The Exige seems so similar to the Elise and I don't want to lose the option of removing the roof. When my warranty is up and there are options for supercharging, I'd rather have a supercharged Elise with a view. Maybe it will be paid for by then as well.

The S2 exige has the same removabe roof as the elise, so all you loose is a bit of rear visibility. I don't think I'll be in the market for another lotus before the current exemptions expire tho.
