I had an idea of mounting the radar detector where the dome light is and using the power supply from the cigarette lighter. Has anyone done/thought of this yet?? If so what radar detector do you think would be the closest to fit.

There's a mount created by an old forumite (who is no longer officially selling them) which bolted to the dome light slot, and pullet the light out a few inches and allowed the radar to sit on top. I have it installed and can take some pics if I remember. It's a pretty neat solution. You could plug into the DC slot but I just run the power directly to the source.

I've seen another that clamps on to the aftermarket harness bar and sticks up a few inches to hold the radar in about the same place. I wasn't a big fan of the aesthetics of this solution but I'm sure it works.

Take care,
Colin

Just put mine up there today. Nice easy spot and hardwired to the igntion. Cop pulled up next to me at a light 2 nights ago and said, "SLOW THE F^Ck DOWN!" and then went on his way.

Haha! Close one! I haven't had any interaction in the Bay Area with cops in my Lotus (knock on fiberglass).

Edit: Actually, that's not entirely true. There was that cop that followed me on the Bay Bridge to make sure I made it safely to an off-ramp when my oil line ruptured. Would love to buy that guy a drink.

Here's mine.

(I know, the Escort is backwards - old photo!)

Forget the name, but there's a guy who makes and sells these on the forum. Easy mount and extends the dome light out.

Detector is velcroed and is going nowhere.

You can power it from the accessory plug. Mine is hardwired (removable to use in my other cars) and I put the remote put up on the dash tray.
