Exige at 2005 New York auto show

So, there's an Exige on display at the NY auto show (link). Additionally, Lotus is rumored to be making an announcement about this car in the next day or two. Does anyone have any OFFICIAL information, a press release or such? The car on display does not look to be part of a Lotus booth, it's sharing space with some Italians and a CO Elise.

looks like it has the normal peashooter exhaust also. Be interesting to see if the engine has a SC on it or not.

I am also hearing no as well for the Exige from my UK sources. :( I hope that the car comes here as I want one for myself!
No in terms of the SC or in terms of the Exige?

I think your UK sources are wrong.

I hope the upside for a same engine Exige may be lighter weight, from component deletions for more track orientation, ability to upgrade to sc for track only, and upgraded brakes, etc. The LSS Elise, otherwise, might make more sense, especially if the price difference is significant.

Hmmm.... Exige with Forcedfed turbo. Now that might be the package!

Some of dealers I've spoken to are expecting the Exige to come to the US. I've heard various details (all rumors, but some supposedly from Lotus reps) that include 4-5 Exige's per dealer per year, no customer color choice i.e. the dealer gets what they get, no 240R and first cars to arrive in early 2006. All of this is just rumor as far as I'm concerned, however I've now heard it a sufficient number of times that I've gone out and placed my deposit.

I will be at the show tomorrow for the dealers preview - I'll try to get some more exige pics/info...

So far the news I've heard is it is coming. Details are unknown. I think it is a good sign that the Exige is at the NY autoshow. As far as I can remember, they have not had one there yet. I'll bet it is a sign of things to come.

yes and no...as far as I know, the Lotus display is not an official Lotus exhibit, but is a dealer exhibit (probably Manhattan Motorcars) - at least that is the way it has been the past few years. Now if they were lent the car by Lotus to stimulate or gauge interest in the exige, then obviously that is a good sign. If the car was somehow imported by the dealer for a customer for track use, then it obviously would be less meaningful. In any event, reading into some of the posts by those with "inside info" it sure sounds like there is a good chance the car will be coming, although probably with the same engine

Hold On Boys and Girls.

The car in the pic is a prototype Federal Exige. According to Simon Croft (Lotus Cars UK Marketing) who was at the show, it is a fully road-compliant car. As such it has the normal Lotus Tuned engine (which is different from the ROW tuning BTW).

I know more but I ain't saying. Unless I'm tortured...

OWWW! OK I'll admit that the enhancements resulted in lap times TWO SECONDS less than the Sport-Package federal car at the Hethel test track.

Great pick up on the reflectors.

So it looks like it IS coming. I can't believe it! I am just hoping for a 'reasonable price.' $10K premium over the elise would be reasonable.

And Carbuff, please more info!
