Beware of statements like "4.25 CWP ratio is perfect" floating around.
Actually, it is a pure technical malarkey.
Ask if anyone can explain why?
Wat is the advantage of 4.250 ratio which makes it so "perfect"?

FYI, the stock ratio is 4.375 and no one ever complained about it.

The difference is .125, I doubt it would be noticeable.

IMO, 4.25 ratio adversely affects acceleration throughout the entire rpm range, thus calling it "perfect" is a prevarication.

The data does not support "perfect" moniker.

Torque=acceleration. Due to a low 4.25 ratio, calculations show lower acceleration torque available throughout the gears at any set speed/gear.

Don't take my word, calculate yourself: Gear and Shift Point Calculator | GTSparkplugs

Sure. Whatever.

Please note there are not so many stoplights where you are the first in line to accelerate with all the torque available..

What matters to most people is a nice drive with lower revs. Your ratio causes a screamer. Be happy with it.

cheers

Speed difference between the two ratios is about;
at 1,000RPM is about .422mph
at 6,000RPM is about 2.532mph
at 7,000RPM is about 2.954mph
at 8,000RPM is about 3.376mph

I think you guys are over thinking this. Yes the higher ratio gives you better acceleration but it would only be noticed with very accurate measuring equipment. MrDangerus, I like this site you put up. I didn't use it, I used the transmission gear of 1:1 and the difference of the two ratios. All I'm doing is making the point that the difference between the two is neglectable. I know it's not perfectly accurate but close enough.

Dan,

I kind-a agree with you; both are pretty close when we look at the speed, BUT even the "stock" 4.375 ratio CWP consistently delivers 8-10 ft-lb more torque from 2K to 6K rpm than 4.25 ratio gear.
More torque = better acceleration!
The fun of driving your Esprit Super Car is in 3rd & 4th gear! NOT 5th!
If someone likes "a nice drive with lower revs ", you bought a wrong car!
Sell Esprit and buy your granny's Park Avenue.
Just saying.

ONCE AGAIN:
Citroen box casing flexes because internals run in the opposite direction on Lotus and push CWP gears out of mesh! Also, the axial forces are acting in the opposite directions flexing the case unfavorably loading bearings!

As I proved it in 2016.
Completely NO Failures on Maserati cars, who "flipped" Crown Wheel to the other side making internal gears running in the correct direction, as design intent has it.

The only save for Lotus cars w/Citroen tranny is to replace OE POS weak gears set and install a REVERSE CUT CWP of my design, which makes pinion run on the "drive" side of the crown wheel teeth and NOT on the "coast" side(30% weaker!)

This proves my case... IF THE INTERNALS ROTATE IN THE DESIGN INTENDED DIRECTION...NOTHING BAD HAPPENS!

For years,
Dave Burnham has been racing his Maserati V6 Turbo (320HP!) car with stock Citroen Transaxle. Here are pictures of his powerplant set up

TESTIMONIAL:
Hi John, Happy New Year to you too.

The only time I have ever seen the cases crack in 47 years of working on Citroens was when I was ice racing. My case problems were the result of crashes or teeth breaking and then getting stuck between gears and blowing the case apart. In normal use I don't really think it's a problem. If you have very sticky tires and dump the clutch trying to do a burn out or hard launch the pinion can ride up on top of the ring gear and explode or crack the case but in normal use that really never happens in my opinion.

Hope that helps,
Dave

FOLKS, SPRING IS UPON US!
It's time to replace your Citroen tranny old "glass CWP" with the robust parts and have some FUN driving this Summer.
Only a few sets are left from the second run. Act NOW!
Once my stock is gone, I'm not going to repeat the production run of these robust parts anymore.
They are designed with a specific purpose, stronger and much cheaper than the European Supplier(s) copy-cat parts.
Selling without the Trump Tariffs to you, so it is a clear $$$ bargain!
Besides, I've never made a big buck selling those. The truth is that I don't need the d... money. There are more important things in Life than $$, although some folks still think, that the "Happiness is a positive cash flow", and winning the Rat Race should be the lifetime goal.
Even if you win the #1 spot in the rat race, you're still... a rat!

Like with EMCO single shaft kit Group Buy initiative for UN1, I just tried to help Lotus Brothers in trouble, because nobody else had balls, to admit that Emperor Has No Clothes nor financial means to come up with the permanent fix of the shortcuts and FUBAR events perpetrated by the piker Chapman and his bunch.

After 10 years, it is time to move on...
